Edit your text with ease

TextPad is a text editor tool that allows you to type, paste, and edit plain text. Developed by Helios Software Solutions, this program is designed for Microsoft Windows and its various office suites. It’s similar to Notepad and you can use it to work with codes or word processors without having to open multiple windows. There’s a free trial available that showcases its core features.

Designed for quick editing

If you’re looking for an easier option when it comes to dealing with text, then plain text editors are recommended. They don’t need much of a tutorial unless you really need to learn something specific and you can just start typing or copy-pasting data onto the program. Notepad is a popular choice due to its simplistic and straightforward interface, but it lacks some more advanced features that veteran text editors may need.

TextPad, on the other hand, has more on its plate that may appeal to developers and programmers. It has basic features such as a regular expression-based “Find and Replace” functionality, block indents, automatic code indentation, syntax highlighting, and clipboard history. It also has a macro-recording feature and CUA-compliant keyboard commands. Plus, this program has automatic integration with Java JDK if you have that installed already.

This program also supports large files, loads them faster than most text editors, and allows you to simultaneously work on multiple files. In case you’re getting lost within the text, you can use bookmarks or Warm Start to come back to where you left off after exiting. TextPad supports UNC-style names and is available in several languages. Its best feature, however, is its clipboard history and clip library function—a sidebar containing copied text.

Not the best but still great

All in all, TextPad is a versatile program for plain text editing. Its user interface isn’t the best to look at with its outdated design, but the features are quite helpful and still make it a tough contender against other professional text editors. It’s not free like Notepad and its other versions but some of its tools work better for specific tasks such as coding and working on huge text documents.

TextPad is designed to provide the power and functionality to satisfy the most demanding text editing requirements. It is Windows hosted, and comes in 16 and 32-bit editions.

Huge files can be edited by either - just choose the edition that works best with your PC. The 32-bit edition can edit files up to the limits of virtual memory, and it will work with Windows 9x, ME, NT 4, 2000 and XP.

TextPad has been implemented according to the Windows XP user interface guidelines, so great attention has been paid to making it easy for both beginners and experienced users.

In-context help is available for all commands, and in-context menus pop-up with the right mouse button. The Windows multiple document interface allows multiple files to be edited simultaneously, with up to 2 views on each file.

Text can be dragged and dropped between files.

Frequently used combinations of commands can be saved as keystroke macros, and the spelling checker has dictionaries for 10 languages.

It also has a customizable tools menu, and integral file compare and search commands, with hypertext jumps from the matched text to the corresponding line in the source file (ideal for integrating compilers).
